Knowledge Transfer Partnership between UAD Scottish Water (SW) – Sewers for Scotland (2nd Edition) SUDS

Project title

Knowledge Transfer Partnership between UAD Scottish Water (SW) – Sewers for Scotland (2nd Edition) SUDS

Brief summary

The implementation of SUDS presents significant challenges for SW. Changes in legislation meant that Scottish Water is required from 1st November 2007 to adopt public SUDS.  These adopted systems become part of the assets of SW used to provide water services.  In order to deliver this improvement in customer service in relation to connections and adoption of Legacy SUDS, SW identified the need for an efficient technical process due to the current lack of experience. The project addresses the lack of skills, both in the customer care team and in the company generally.  The partnership with UAD will result in the embedding of skills and knowledge in the company which in turn will reduce the company costs. The operations and finance divisions have no experience or expertise in managing the practical aspects of SUDS or data to base medium and long term budgets of the costs of adopted SUDS installations. Staff in the company has limited knowledge of SUDS function or design, furthermore, there has been a culture which presumed against the adoption of above ground assets. UAD have extensive practical research knowledge and skills in the design and monitoring of SUDS.
The work being carried out in partnership with UAD includes;

  • Review SUDS plans and policy.
  • Implementation of technical processes for handing SUDS design, approval and adoption.
  • Transfer of knowledge to operations divisions of SW
  • Transfer knowledge to planning and finance divisions
  • Disseminate SUDS design and installation knowledge to relevant stakeholders
