Useful equipment
- Large supply of domestic detergents/disinfectants to use for disinfecting
contaminated areas
- Rubber boots, gloves, protective clothing and waterproof plasters
to protect yourself from infection by contaminated water
- Bottled water in case the water supply becomes effected, and a
kettle for boiling tap water before use (a camping stove may be
useful if the power supply is not secure)
- A torch (battery powered or wind-up) in case the power supply
is affected
- Your insurance policy and a list of useful phone numbers
(see also Who to contact) kept in a
sealed plastic bag for safety
- Heavy duty refuse bags for the disposal of contaminated materials
from the building
- A mobile phone, in case the floods have affected domestic phone
lines
- A Yellow Pages or similar phone book
- A camera and film to record the flood damage
- Heaters and fans to aid the drying process
- Brooms, scrubbing brushes, mops and buckets
- A basic tool kit, including a hammer, nails, screwdrivers and
spanners
- Emergency food supplies
