Further information on reducing the impacts of flooding

CIRIA's research study, Reducing the impacts of flooding - extemporary measures (2001), identifies the measures that may be taken to provide some protection against flooding using readily available material. The report is based on the findings of literature search of flood, flood damage and property publications, principally using databases and websites. The study also included a survey of occupants of flooded properties to develop additional information on the effects of flooding and identify any extemporary measures taken and their success.  This report is available from the following pdf Reducing the impacts of flooding - extemporary measures.

Flood Risk Assessment Guidance for New Development

Flood risk assessment guidance for new development [Defra/Environment Agency project number FD2320] has developed a science and risk-based framework designed to enable a consistent approach to the assessment and management of flood risk for new development across England and Wales. The framework (including guidance and tools) has been achieved by integrating and simplifying existing guidance (including CIRIA's Development and flood risk — guidance for the construction industry (C624)) and the latest findings from an extensive range of research projects.
