Insulation installation

Insulation is a fundamental component of any environmental policy for a building, in terms of conserving energy (e.g. cavity wall insulation), preventing pipes from bursting (e.g. lagging) and fireproofing

Insulation type and thickness need to be considered. In addition to thermal insulation, the choice of insulation material needs to be judged against both fire and sound insulation criteria.

Key environmental issues include:

• dust created during removal potentially hazardous (e.g. older materials containing asbestos)
• fireproofing requirements (refer to Building Regulations)
• use of non-CFC’s and non-HCFC’s as blowing agents
• use of recycled materials (e.g. paper)
• waste minimisation (e.g. reduction of offcuts).
